Counselling programmes to support women in rural areas, manufacturing bio-degradable, low-cost and accessible sanitary pads.
About the project
This project engages women and girls from low-income families to produce biodegradable sanitary pads made in 99% from natural materials (plantain and banana stems).
The model is developed by GreenPad Concepts and aims to produce affordable sanitary pads (60% cheaper than the ones available in the African market), supporting the local economy and engaging the beneficiaries with educational programs.
Impact and main outcome
Aside from the pads production employing local women, this project runs educational programs and campaigns in schools, rural communities, neighbourhoods and parishes, spreading awareness on menstrual hygiene, reproductive health and family planning.
