This is a project that allows to shred PET plastic and produce eco-bricks, to use for building houses or community centres, anywhere in the world.
About the project
The Eco-bricks project has been developed by Fundación Ecoinclusion, an Argentinian NGO that found a way to mix shred plastic, sand and glueing material to assemble eco-bricks, to be used for social houses and community centres in vulnerable communities.
This model is known in many other places in the world, but their approach reduces 40% of production costs thanks to a key scheme of alliances and revenue-making mechanisms to be replicated in each city.
Impact and main outcomes
Can community centres and public sector building be built with eco-bricks? Can bricks factories be involved in programs that use their existing infrastructure to make the bricks, reducing production costs, while employing women and youth from vulnerable contexts?
Eco-bricks can up-cycle plastic into bricks to build the places for any local community to connect and grow.
